Best Practices Checklist for portfolios!
- Host PDFs on Squarespace rather than linking to a Google drive or other cloud service in order to increase accessibility to all viewers
- Set PDFs and external links to “open in a new browser tab”, so when a viewer closes out of them your main portfolio page is still open
- Check page URLS and titles and make sure they match the name of the project. They should be specific (e.g., https://www.portfolio.com/climbtheatre) not generic (e.g., https://www.portfolio.com/new-page-1)
- Create a custom favicon (tiny icon that appears in the browser tab)
- Review mobile view for layout and be sure images can be zoomed/expanded on mobile.
- Use a spelling/grammar checker (e.g. Grammarly, Hemingway app )
- Remove any reference to dates or timelines. This will serve as a distractor for those quickly scanning your work – and will not indicate the thoughtfulness and robust work that was done in that timeframe.
- Remove any reference to being a student, except for on your resume. You are an early career UX practitioner, with previous work experience.
- Include a brief/scannable intro for each case study
